Letter from the Editor
Dear Reader,
As Adobe Connect rooms reopen and assignments approach their due dates, we fall into the familiar rhythm of coursework. Editors and writers hash through article proposals, cycling through monthly issues. It’s in these moments that we remember the purpose of the Pixel Journal: to progress through pausing and peering inwards; to create community by recognizing the connections that saturate OHS.
I’m incredibly excited to contribute to this purpose by serving as the Journal’s Editor-In-Chief this year! I–and the rest of the Journal–am infinitely appreciative of Arielle Clyne, our previous Editor-In-Chief. Her guidance, passion, and creativity leaves a lasting legacy of inspiration. The same goes for every other contributor—whether it be you, reading and supporting the community, or our amazing editorial board, being a part of the Journal means making a mark. Having joined in freshman year, I learnt the minutia of event planning, various club operations, and reconnecting with alumni. Yet most importantly, I learnt that—even at an online school—community will be wherever you look. By participating in the Journal, you’ll also adopt this lens.
In this issue, we cover what Pixels have been up to this summer: Summer@Stanford, visiting Japan or Yellowstone, or various summer programs. We also highlight some OHS courses, such as Dr. Zarlengo’s Legal Studies or Dr. Keating’s Leadership Seminar. Looking towards this semester, students around the globe have been attending StartUps and planning for Halloween next month!
As cliché as it sounds, meaning comes from recognizing these smaller details. It comes from being engaged with every situation, truly sitting with experiences—not being a passive observer of life’s mechanics. OHS encourages us to be involved; occasional meetups become even more meaningful culminations of countless online messages. With that, we hope that the Journal can support you, too, as you continuously find meaning. We hope to not only capture the simple rhythm of OHS, but to also articulate the notes that make us whole.
Wishing you the best in October and a great time reading this issue!
Warmly,
Rachael
