OHS Homecoming: A Beloved Tradition
The annual OHS Homecoming took place on November 22-23 in the Boston area, drawing over 200 students and families to the Royal Sonesta Boston, a luxurious riverfront hotel. This annual event has grown from an informal gathering of a few families in Boston and MIT Splash into one of the most cherished and important OHS traditions. It marks a time to reconnect, make memories and create lasting friendships. This year's Homecoming, like its predecessors, was filled with exciting events including a scenic boat ride along the Charles River, ice skating in the Simoni Skating Rink and a homecoming dance at the Royal Sonesta.
The boat ride along the Charles River was a highlight for many of the attendees
Justin (‘26) a junior who attended, described the experience as being “surreal,” especially as he watched the sun set behind the Boston-Cambridge skyline while surrounded by friends. Touching on the refreshments offered on the boat ride and the views, Justine shared “I loved the panoramic view alongside complementary drinks from the on-board mini-bar”.
The Homecoming dance at the Royal Sonesta Hotel was another standout event. This year's theme, “Flight to Neverland,” transformed the venue into a magical landscape. Before the dance attendees dined on pasta and salads while marveling at the decorations. Each table featured lighting, white clouds made of fluff and other fairy/pirate themed decorations. In addition to the dance and lively music, a quiet room/board game room was also offered, providing additional space for attendees to socialize and have a good time with friends.
Beyond the fun activities, Homecoming also gave students the chance to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. Justine shared how the event helped him build meaningful connections especially with fellow East Coast OHSers. “Homecoming has enabled me to connect with many East Coast OHSers whom I would otherwise not have the opportunity to meet” he explained and described it as a good opportunity to reconnect, reminisce and catch up.
Homecoming continues to be one of the most important OHS traditions offering students a special time to bond, create memories, and enjoy Boston.
