The Science Research Club, led by Lakshmi Agarwal ‘26, Aanya Gupta ‘27, Ellie Shen ‘27 and Mika Nonaka ‘27, hosted three guest speakers  to share their journeys in science research and provide a forum for club members to ask questions and get inspired.

On September 19th, Dr Nick DeMello, an instructor for the Analytical and Organic Chemistry course at OHS and also one of the science research club sponsors, shared his research journey about how he gained interest in chemistry as a field and eventually started to study in or work in chemistry  at  UC Berkeley, University of Pittsburgh and UCLA.

On October 10th, the club invited Tei Kim, an OHS alumnus who is a  current freshman studying computer science and molecular biology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology He shared his research journey in high school and the influence OHS classes like MSB had at the very beginning of his journey, and the Garcia Summer Research Program he attended. He also talked about the research he is currently pursuing in the Fan Lab at MIT.

On October 17th, Dr. Joslyn Mills-Bonal joined as a guest speaker. She earned her PhD in cellular and molecular physiology from Tufts University, completed her postdoctoral research at Brown University, and currently serves as a professor at Bridgewater State University. She discussed her journey in molecular biology and gave insider insight into Brown’s Pre-College Course-Based Research Experience, where students conduct hands-on genetic research with C. elegans
