OHS Tahoe Meetup Recap!
On September 29th through 30th, OHSers and their families descended on the town of Incline Village, Nevada for a weekend of fun and friends. The journey to Tahoe was an adventure for many, featuring many long road trips or flights to the local airport. The majority of OHSers arrived at Incline Village on Friday, the official first day of the meetup. Pixels arrived at the hotel to be greeted at check in with some OHS swag–including a bag and a blanket with the OHS Pixel adorning it. In addition to check in, there were numerous activities planned that day, including several field trips to the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research center and a welcome-reception featuring various types of S’mores on the hotel’s private beach. The first day was full of students meeting with old friends and making new friends.
The next day was even more eventful. After a catered breakfast by the hotel, students had the opportunity to go on a 2.6 mile hike to Monkey Rock–a trail only a short distance from the hotel. [picture] However, not everyone chose to go on the hike, some students instead choosing to hang out, explore, and enjoy the sunny Tahoe weather. The afternoon was host to several activities, official and unofficial:a Catamaran through the calm waters of Lake Tahoe, kayaking, hanging with friends at the hotel pool, icebreaker games on the beach, and various games. Many of the OHSers stated that the catamaran was one of their favorite parts of the Tahoe meetup, including OHS students LanLan H and Danielle Y. Following all the activities of the day, OHSers, their families, and OHS staff members met up again for a catered dinner, where there were speeches and prizes for those who talked about new people they’d met. After, there was a student only movie night of Arthur the King, with a customizable popcorn bar, fresh fruit, and more. Of course, not all OHSers chose to attend, with some breaking off to hang with friends and have fun. Olivia F, a sophomore, describes her favorite part of the night as “stargazing on the pier with others.” The next morning, the sun rose on the final day of the OHS Tahoe meetup. Following breakfast, students began to reunite with their friends, new and old, for a last hurrah. In addition, many OHSers had signed up for ziplining, where they navigated tricky obstacle courses, hanging high above the ground. As Sunday went by, OHSers said their goodbyes and slowly began to make their ways back home before classes started back up again on Monday. Overall, the OHS Tahoe meetup was a fantastic experience with no complaints–except that it should be longer!
