What OHSers Are Grateful For

"Gratitude helps us see what is there instead of what isn't." – Annette Bridges

As we enter the last month of autumn, November prompts us to appreciate and reflect on our blessings. Regardless whether the blessings are big or small, practicing gratitude has many benefits. Gratitude can improve your wellbeing, strengthen relationships, and help you find hope in challenging times.

In a survey, our students shared the blessings in their lives, as well as the ways they showed gratitude. Here are their responses:

How do you usually express gratitude in your daily life?

"Excluding things like a roof over my head, food, family, etc, I am mostly grateful that I finished my 3 presentations and midterm for this week and managed to do well in them T-T. It's a miracle."

"Finding 2 schools that work for me."

"My poodle."

"I'm most grateful to be able to spend time with my parents before going to college."

"My family and friends and the opportunities I've had."

What foods/snacks are you grateful for? (aka taking snack recommendations)

"Bread, tea, and peanut butter. That's all you need in life."

"My sister (before she went to college) would make pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. I also love pumpkin bread. On Thanksgiving itself I usually make an apple pie and eat all the types of pie, stuffing, mashed potatoes, turkey, etc."

"Pickles and popcorn (eat them separately though)."

How do you usually express gratitude in your life?

"I make my mom tea like 5 times a day, weed the yard on the occasion, do laundry, and clean up after dinner."

I usually express gratitude to people by spending time with them."

"By thanking people out loud."

"I speak it in different ways."

Have you learned any important lessons about gratitude or being thankful?

"It just makes life in general more delightful for you and those around you."

"It makes you have humility."

"It always makes someone feel better when you express gratitude even for little things."
