Letter from the Editor

Dear Reader,

I am so honored and excited to be your new Editor-in-Chief! I am eager to lead our amazing Pixel Journal team as we can continue furthering our publication’s vision and tackle the next school year.

First, thank you so much to our wonderful Paige Yeung for being a great leader this past year and an inspiration to the rest of the team in the magazine’s collective mission. The Journal is proud and looks forward to seeing where her leadership and enthusiasm takes her next.

Since Pixel Journal’s founding in 2016, our primary goal has been to represent the diverse and compelling individuals of the Stanford OHS community. We spotlighted our instructors and documented our students’ research and achievements in the Stories column, captured our distinguished student experience in the Culture column, and featured the strifes and ventures of our invaluable clubs in the Clubs column.

I remember when discovering the Journal in my first year of OHS back in 2017, I, like many other students, became so inspired by how complex our students’ endeavors diverged, how passionate the discussions became, and how unique our interests ranged. Reflecting back, I realize that part of my priority moving forward is to continue to work to meet these goals as we move into the next school year, that is, to continue carefully and authentically commenting, criticizing, challenging, and capturing the student culture that we created.

However, in addition to that, I have another goal: to establish a sense of community with the publication. After proceeding to scroll past the homepage into diving through all the Pixel Journal articles, I felt something more than just fascination by getting to know our brilliant people. In addition to that, I also felt a new level of connection to my student body, despite the fact that I was new and I still have not met or talked to anyone yet. This feeling of connection is extremely important, especially at an online school where we are separated by the miles and oceans between us. Feeling unified at Stanford OHS is not automatically given but rather earned. Yet, that is also what makes our school so special.

Thus, my goal is to not only take advantage of Pixel Journal as a tool of communication but also utilize this medium to catalyze the way we can connect and grow together as a school. I am so delighted for another meaningful year of this publication and I cannot wait to connect and grow with everyone else too.

Yours,

Rachel
