Letter from the Editor

Dear Reader,

To our returning students, welcome back! To our new students joining us this year, a very warm welcome to the OHS community! And to everyone, congratulations on getting through one full month of school!

Your classes and assignments are no doubt back in full swing, and it can definitely be easy to get overwhelmed and caught up in your to-do lists and deadlines. Even as a senior in my fourth year at OHS, this is an all too familiar feeling, so I hope you have been able to take this past month (or longer!) to find your footing and your rhythm for this year.

As you go through your seemingly endless Canvas modules, I hope it isn’t lost on you that these modules do, in fact, represent the limited amount of time we have remaining this school year. This might be hard to grasp so early in the year, but as you have probably seen from just this month, time really does fly, so I encourage you to make the most of it! Reach out to classmates, get involved in clubs, and remember that you’ll be able to look back on everything you accomplish now at the end of May. More immediately, however, midterm exams are creeping up on us but this, too, is a major milestone in our journey through this school year.

Looking ahead to the rest of this year, I hope the Pixel Journal continues to be a window into the OHS community that we can all be proud to be a part of. I hope that the Journal will not only serve as a passive look into life at OHS, but that it can also continue to shed light on how you and your peers can take the initiative to shape the community for yourself. With that aim, I’m looking forward to reading all of the articles that are yet to come and encourage you to participate in the Pixel Journal! We would love to see your contributions, whether that be in our monthly playlists, a published article, or in a Letter to the Community at the bottom of our homepage.

For now, I am excited to unveil the Pixel Journal’s first issue of the year! This month, meet the Pixel Journal’s 2022-2023 Team and learn more about each of our editors in our Introduction to the Editorial Board. In the Culture column, please enjoy reading about how OHSers are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, and take a peek “Beyond the Screen” at two OHSers’ experiences living in Princeville, Hawaii and Westminster, UK. Listen to our September playlist to welcome the arrival of fall, and finally, in Clubs, we spotlight the Pixel Chefs, the OHS hub for all things cooking, baking, and food.

All the best on midterms and whatever lies ahead for you in October,

Eryn
