Introduction to the 2022-2023 Editorial Board

Meet our new editorial board for the 2022-2023 school year!

April ’24, Assistant Editor

Dear Reader,

My name is April and I’m super excited to be the Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the Pixel Journal this year! I’m a junior from Newport Beach in my fourth year at OHS. At OHS, I am a peer tutor, student ambassador, and teaching assistant. I also lead UNICEF and UNHCR clubs, and co-lead the Generation She club. I’m also the editor-in-chief for The Chrysalis, OHS’s literary journal. Academically, I am very interested in psychology and neuroscience as I love all things that have to do with the brain. When I’m not studying, you can find me either hanging out with my family (I have five younger siblings, so that’s always eventful), reading, baking, or swimming.

As the Assistant EIC, I work with Eryn, the amazing Editor-in-Chief, to oversee the production of the Pixel Journal. Some of my duties include brainstorming ideas for the issues, sending out announcements to contributors and the editorial staff, and setting up monthly meetings.

I look forward to reading all the articles you will submit and I hope you have a successful school year! If you have any questions at all about the Pixel Journal, feel free to reach out to me or Eryn!

Sincerely,

April

Rasa ’25, Stories Editor

Dear Reader,

I’m Rasa, the stories editor here at Pixel Journal. I’m fifteen, and this is my third year here at OHS. I live in Campbell, California and have three cats. I enjoy reading and biking.

I joined last year as a contributor, and look forward to reading all the Stories submissions. The Pixel Journal is such a fun publication to read, and the playlists are always great! I hope that all of you can learn more about OHS and the people in it, as well as have fun writing your articles.

Rasa

Julianna ’23, Culture Editor

Dear Reader,

My name is Julianna (though most people at OHS call me Jules), and I will be the Culture Editor for the Pixel Journal this year! I’m a senior entering my third year at OHS and I live in Austin, Texas. At OHS, my favorite courses are Spanish, neuroscience, and philosophy. In addition to being a Spanish peer tutor at OHS, I am the instructor of high school students for a Spanish class I teach for a nonprofit. I also speak on a podcast about digital responsibility! Apart from academics, I spend my free time listening to one of my many playlists or hanging out with my siblings or friends.

As the Culture Editor this year, I lead the Pixel Journal’s Culture column. In this column, diversity is explored on both the local OHS and global scales. The Culture column covers everything from the traditions of OHS students to controversial discussions that attempt to answer the questions and problems that matter to the OHS student body. Hopefully, by reading the articles posted in this column, you’ll either be able to learn new things about someone else’s experiences or feel represented as you read an article about your own.

I can’t wait to oversee this column this year and learn more about OHS and the world around us! Feel free to reach out with any suggestions or ideas you have!

-Jules

Fevroniya ’24, Clubs Editor

Dear Reader,

My name is Fev and I am really excited to be the club’s editor for Pixel Journal! I am a single-course junior in my third year at OHS and I live in England.

As the Clubs Editor, I oversee the Clubs column. As a club/circle leader at OHS myself and having participated in a variety of OHS organizations, I am really passionate about sharing more about the clubs/circles and the incredible amount that they contribute to OHS. I am looking forward to working with student leaders across the wide variety of topics that OHS clubs represent and I am always open to new ideas! My job will mainly involve overseeing Club column submissions, writing my own articles, interviewing and communicating with club leaders, and working with the rest of Pixel Journal to make sure that everything runs smoothly!

I am looking forward to working with some of you this year and I hope you enjoy learning more about the Editorial Board at Pixel Journal.

Have the most awesome 2022-2023 school year!

Fev

Tala ’26, Community Engagement Editor

Dear Reader,

Good morning, noon, or evening! I’m Tala, and I’m super nerve-cited (a mix, you could say, of nervous and excited) to be part of the Pixel Journal’s core team this year as Community Engagement Editor.

This is my first year here at OHS, so allow me to tell you a bit about me: I’m a part-time international student based in a quiet village in the Philippines called Moonville - a name I’ve always found quite charming. Most of the time, you’ll see me planning events or making promotional posts for clubs from my other school like the World Vision Club, the Communicators Club, or the Gaming Club, but when all is quiet and the day is at its end, I enjoy playing football on Sunday afternoons, playing JRPG music on the piano, cuddling with my cats, drawing OCs, and honing my creative writing skills by roleplaying and describing food. Hey, practice is practice, right?

Now, back to business! As Community Engagement Editor, I’ll oversee the management of the Journal’s Instagram account, create monthly playlists for you to enjoy on Spotify, recruit contributors, and do a bunch of other cool tasks! I’m also going to be writing an article or two on a variety of topics - academics, student life, instructor spotlights, and more.

I’m excited to read all the wonderful articles you’ll submit, and I wish you a prosperous and fun year ahead!

With love,

Tala
