Letter from the Editor

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the new school year! To our returning students, welcome back! To our new Class of 2029, your time at OHS will definitely be one of the most exciting times of your life!

As I’m sure many of us already know, each school year at OHS is a journey in and of itself. It’s a roller coaster ride, essentially, filled with many highs and lows. I know that many of us look forward to the months ticking by until we finally reach summer break.

But I also want to highlight that as we turn in each assignment, we are also getting closer to the end of this journey. The time we have at OHS is limited, especially for us seniors, so I encourage everyone to take advantage of the wonderful resources and opportunities we are provided with. While it may be hard to find the fun in the midst of all this stress, I hope that we, together as a student body, will be able to reflect on what we wish to accomplish this school year, both individually and with the community as a whole.

With that, I am excited to reveal the Pixel Journal's first issue of the year, featuring our newly added Effective Altruism column! This month, you can read more about our amazing 2023-2024 Editorial Board and get to know who our editors are. In the Culture column, have fun reading about September NorCal meetups, what OHS students were up to during the summer, and student opinions on Pronto, the new communication platform introduced this school year. We also have our September playlist for you to play in the background as you study, and finally, in the Stories column, learn more about the new Unity & Diversity of Biological Systems course taught by Dr. Vetter.

Wishing everyone the best of luck on midterms & essays!

Sincerely,

April
